Valuing Web Series is the first multi-country research project on web series, focussing on Australia, Canada and France. We are now two years into this four-year study, which looks at the many different forms of ‘value’ that web series contribute to the greater screen industry and cultures. As part of our research, we are: documenting careers of creators, cast, and crew; we are looking at various ways that web series are being used as both a training ground for traditional networks, as well for experimenting with ways of capturing audiences with serial content for new and existing platforms; and we are examining the notion that web series production (in our key countries) is a significant diversifier in terms of bringing new stories to underserved audiences, as well as fostering new and underrepresented talent on both sides of the camera.
